Here Is An Easy Way To Make Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Are you a healthy naturalist who loves to save money? That’s good because, here,we'd be sharing useful tips on how to make your own Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (EVCO), just so you can put some money back to your pocket. The interesting thing is that it’s quite simple to do.

 

There aremany health benefits of coconut oil. But there are even much more amazing uses of ECVO, which include:

 

  1. As cooking oil
  2. As skin moisturizer
  3. As a hair care product
  4. For oral care; as an antiseptic mouth wash.

It is a known fact that the saturated fat in coconut oil is good for our health, as they help to lubricate the joints and reduce inflammation. They also have a wonderful aromatic appeal.

 

Often times, people wonder what the difference between extra virgin coconut oil and regular coconut oil is. So,here it is: the major difference is in the method of extraction. While EVCO is in its pure form, the regular coconut oil undergoes the process of refining, which somewhat distorts the pure form.

 

To prepare your EVCO, you'd be needing the following materials:

  1. Coconuts
  2. Blender
  3. Jar
  4. Cloth strainer
  5. Stove
  6. Pot
  7. Water
  8. Knife

 

 

Procedure:

Basically, you can adopt the ‘wet mill’process or the ‘boiling’ process. Usually, both processes end up giving the same end product, you just need to choose the one that works better for you.

  1. Wet Mill Process

- Break and chop the coconut into pieces (set aside the coconut milk for later use).

- Pour the shredded coconut, the coconut milk (some like to call it coconut water) and water into a blender and blend on high speed until the coconut puree is thick.

-  Strain the mixture with the cloth strainer to get out the milk as much as possible and put in a jar

- Leave the mixture in the jar unattended to for about 24 hours. This is to ensure the coconut milk is separated from the coconut and oil (at this stage, a layer of curd appears at the top of the jar).

- Refrigerate or leave the jar in a cool room, this is to further harden the curd.

- Scoop out the curd and discard. Your extra virgin coconut oil is left in the jar and ready for use.

 

  1. Boiling Process

After steps (1 to 3 above)

- Pour the coconut milk into a pot and place on the stove. Turn on the stove and boil the solution on high heat, stirring along until the mixture becomes oily and much thicker.

- Pour this thick mixture into a strainer and apply pressure to push out the oil. You may need to boil the coconut milk again to get more out.
