It’s A New Year! Here’s How To Ditch Those Toxic Habits

Many of our habits are what we took on from our parents. But a good number of others emanate from our environment or the society in which we live. The people we surround ourselves with and the activities we indulge in certainly go a long way to influence the majority of our habits. We unconsciously take on other people’s view and perspective about things, and start to think of our lives in a certain way, or look at and respond to situations in a particular manner, which eventually turns into a habit.

Habits work in amazing ways. For instance, if you surround yourself with positive people, you have the opportunity of taking on some wonderful habits from them. Just as well, if you surround yourself with negative people, the habits you would inculcate could leave you worse of.

Toxic habits often stop you from developing yourself and also send out a negative vibe that is never attractive. Thus, it pushes people away from you. However, it is completely possible to kick those toxic habits that you have now become so accustomed to. It is never too late to make a change.

Here, we offer you usable tips that would help you consciously ditch whatever toxic habit you probably struggled with in the past year, so you can make the most of the New Year.

Change Your Circle

Remove yourself from the circle of friends, families or work place that fuel your toxic habit. Until you remove yourself from this circle, you will not be able to grow and move forward. Try to be very conscious and careful of the people you keep in your life.

Get Rid of Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts are like parasites. They feed and multiply. This time, they are in your head! Creepy, right? Simply replace negative thoughts with new positive ones. Read and affirm positive messages. Practise this for about 30 days and see how your brain and mind will now be conditioned to think only positive thoughts. In a short while, you will see a big change in your behavioural pattern.

Let Go and Live

Letting the past control your present is a very common behaviour. Someone once said that there are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow. Past experiences have a way of controlling the present if you allow it to, and if you do not choose how you want it to affect your present. You may use your past as an excuse for not being better or make it your reason to get up and be better. The choice is yours.

Don’t Compete

We are quick to get into a competition with others. Being in a competition with people can quickly go south because of the constant stress and pressure you place on yourself to be a certain way and have certain things. Don’t compare yourself to others. This can hinder you from creating your own journey and story. Even if you must be in a competition, keep it healthy.

Our habits create who we are. What toxic habit is holding you back from being all that you can be? Take time to talk and work yourself through it. At the end, you will be better for it.
